In response, Aiden Markram scored a superb 91 from 93 balls and formed some crucial partnerships along the way. However, they were reduced to 260/9 and battled past the nervy stage to force a win. Pakistan have now suffered four successive defeats after winning their first two games. Meanwhile, for the first time, South Africa have beaten Pakistan in a World Cup match (ODI/T20I) in seven attempts since 1999.

3000 powerplay runs for De Kock

Quinton de Kock is the top scorer in the 2023 ODI World Cup, having hammered three centuries already, including a 174-run knock versus Bangladesh. De Kock, who has over 400 runs, scored 24 versus Pakistan. As per ESPNcricinfo, De Kock owned 2982 runs in the power play overs and was 18 shy of the 3000-run mark in power play overs (1-10). He has raced to 3006 runs, becoming the third batter in ODI cricket to hammer 3000-plus runs in the first 10 overs after Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Notably, the power play change of overs 1-10 came into effect in 2005.

Mohammad Rizwan and Aidan Markram surpass 2000 ODI runs

Mohammad Rizwan scored a quick-fire 31-run knock against the Proteas. Rizwan came into this contest with 1995 runs in ODIs and has now gone past the 2000-run mark. He has amassed 2026 runs at an average of 39.72

Another player who surpassed the 2000-run record in ODI cricket is South Africa’s Aiden Markram. Notably, Markram needed 70 runs to get to the milestone. He now has 2021 runs at 38.23. Markram slammed his 10th ODI fifty.

First SA batter to smash 900-plus runs in 2023

Playing his 17th ODI in 2023, Markram has slammed eight 50-plus scores. He is currently the 8th-highest scorer in ODIs this year. He has 3 ODI centuries and five fifties this year.

Highest individual score by a SA batter in WC history against Pakistan

Markram’s 91 saw him become the highest individual run-scorer for SA versus Pakistan in ODI World Cup history. He broke the previous record of 77 runs scored by legend AB de Villiers in the 2015 edition.

Shaheen gets to 99 scalps in his 50th ODI

Pakistan left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi claimed 3/45 from his 10 overs. Playing his 50th ODI match for the Men in Green. Shaheen now has 99 ODI scalps. Meanwhile, in 11 ODI World Cup games, Shaheen has 29 scalps at an impressive 18.27. He has equaled Hasan Ali in terms of ODI scalps for Pakistan (99).

50th score of 50-plus for Babar in ODIs

Babar (50) has gone past 5600 runs in ODI cricket. He has slammed 31 fifties and 19 centuries to date. With his fifty, Babar has now hammered 50 50-plus scores in ODIs. Babar became the eighth batter to accomplish 50 ODI scores of 50-plus for Pakistan. He joined the likes of Inzaman-ul-Haq (93), Mohammad Yousuf (77), Saeed Anwar (63), Javed Miandad (58), Younis Khan (55), Shoaib Malik (53), and Saleem Malik (52) in the elite list.

Babar has equalled Misbah’s World Cup record

Babar has smashed seven fifty-plus scores in ODI World Cups, including one century and six fifties. He has now equalled Misbah-ul-Haq (7) to become the joint-second-highest in terms of 50-plus scores for the Men in Green. Only Javed Miandad (9) owns more such scores.

Babar becomes the 5th-highest scorer for PAK in ODI World Cups

In 14 ICC World Cup matches, Babar has smashed 681 runs at an average of 52.38. He has become the fifth-highest scorer for Pakistan in ODI World Cups, surpassing former skipper Imran Khan (666 runs). Babar is now only behind Miandad (1,083), Anwar (915), Inzamam-ul-Haq (717), and Ramiz Raja (700). In the ongoing World Cup, Babar has racked up three fifties.

Shamsi joins Hogg in a unique club 

As per Cricbuzz, Shami has now registered the third-best bowling figures among left-arm wrist-spinners in ODI World Cup history. He also became just the second bowler to pick a four-fer. Former Aussie spinner Brad Hogg holds the best figures in World Cup history among left-arm wrist-spinners. He took 4/27 versus the Netherlands in 2007, besides 4/29 versus New Zealand, also in 2007.

Shamsi claims a massive record versus PAK 

As per ESPNcricinfo, Shamsi is now the first South African bowler to claim a four-wicket haul against Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup. He broke the previous record of 3/30 registered by Dale Steyn in 2015. Shamsi is also just the third spinner overall to take a WC four-fer versus Pakistan after Australian duo Shane Warne and Adam Zampa.

2nd-highest successful chase in World Cups for SA

SA have posted their second-highest successful chase in World Cup history. SA’s best chase is 297 vs India in Nagpur, 2011. Meanwhile, this is also the highest successful chase by South Africa against Pakistan in all ODIs, surpassing the 251-run mark in East London in 1998.

SA clock this WC record

South Africa are now the first side in World Cup history to clock a one-wicket win on two counts. Earlier, they beat Sri Lanka by one wicket in the 2007 World Cup.
