Intikhab Alam mourned his friend's death

Indian cricket dealt a heavy blow on Monday, October 23, as former India spinner and captain Bishan Singh Bedi passed away aged 77.

Bedi, who played for India from 1966-79, was one of the architects of spin bowling and brought a revolution in Indian cricket. Several cricketers and renowned figures of different professions mourned Bedi’s death and expressed their pain and grief on social media platforms.

The pain of Bedi’s death isn’t confined to Indian borders, as former players across borders have also mourned the passing away of the former left-arm spinner. Former Pakistan player and captain Intikhab Alam is also devastated by his friend’s death.

He spoke to PTI from Lahore and remarked that he lost his closest friend on the other side of the border.

“He was of course a world-class cricketer but an even better human being. I have lost my closest friend on the other side of the border.”

“Kartarpur was the last time we met. We got so emotional that we cried talking about the old times. Of late, we could not talk over the phone (due to Bedis’ health), but my wife was in regular touch with Bishan’s wife. They both also became the best of friends because of our friendship,” remarked Alam.

Alam recently made it to the news after he urged Babar Azam to take a leaf out of Virat Kohli’s book.
