Sri Lankan cricket is in turmoil
ICC suspended Sri Lanka cricket

On November 10, ICC suspended the Sri Lanka Cricket because of the government’s interference. The International Cricket Council issued a press release where they stated that the Sri Lankan board has been suspended with immediate effect.

“The ICC Board met today and determined that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka. The conditions of the suspension will be decided by the ICC Board in due course.”

After a humiliating 302-run defeat against India in this World Cup, Sri Lanka’s sports minister, Roshan Ranasinghe, dissolved the board, but the Court of Appeals restored it.

This interference by the government in the internal matters of the Sri Lankan Cricket resulted in the suspension. Sri Lanka cannot participate in any ICC event till the ban gets lifted.

A similar event occurred in the India last year when FIFA suspended the Indian Football Federation for third party interference.
