KL Rahul
Shoaib Akhtar highlighted Rahul's strong batting and wicketkeeping, saying he showed authority and stability in important moments

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul spearheaded India to a triumphant start in the Cricket World Cup 2023 by forming a formidable 162-run partnership for the 4th wicket, ultimately leading to India’s victory over Australia.

Facing a challenging target of 201 runs, India struggled early, losing three top-order batters for ducks. However, Kohli and Rahul’s remarkable performance, crafting a crucial 165-run stand for the 4th wicket, turned the game in India’s favor.

While Kohli’s commendable 85-run knock earned praise, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar emphasized the equal importance of Rahul’s contribution, both with the bat and as a wicketkeeper in the first innings.

In his analysis on his YouTube channel, Shoaib Akhtar expressed, “KL Rahul seemed to be at a different level based on the manner he asserted his dominance. Virat Kohli was unable to play a chanceless innings. KL Rahul did not provide any chance during his whole innings,” he said.

“Rahul played crucial shots when the team needed them and managed pressure in response to the game’s demands. While Virat Kohli’s dropped catch marked a turning point, KL Rahul’s solidity was also essential. You can play him at any number; he performs well in the middle order and at the start. Remember that he kept wickets for 50 overs just before this as well,” Akhtar added.

While Kohli receives widespread acclaim for his fitness and running between the wickets, Akhtar underlined the need to acknowledge KL Rahul’s fitness prowess, running alongside Kohli even after wicketkeeping.

“People praise Virat Kohli for his stamina and for sprinting between the wickets, however, it is important to note that KL Rahul also ran with him after keeping wickets. KL Rahul is a complete player who must be supported at all times,” he concluded.
