Australia and New Zealand played out the best game in ODIs for a while now. Australia posted a record 388/10 versus New Zealand in 49.2 overs, riding on Travis Head’s century and David Warner’s 81. Glenn Maxwell did well with his cameo.

In response, New Zealand stayed alive in the game until the final ball. NZ posted 383 and went on to lose by five runs in the end. Rachin Ravindra smashed a majestic century as Daryl Mitchell and Jimmy Neesham produced the fireworks with clutch fifties. However, Neesham’s run-out was the final nail in the coffin.

Warner breaks Ponting’s sixes record for Australia in ODI World Cups

David Warner smashed a sensational 81-run score from 65 balls. He registered 5 fours and 6 sixes. As per ESPNcricinfo, Warner now holds the most number of sixes for Australia in ODI World Cup history. Warner, who has raced to 36 sixes, broke the record of Ricky Ponting, who managed 31 in his career. Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell also steered clear of Ponting and owns 33 World Cup maximums. Warner now has the fourth-most sixes in ODI World Cups.

Australia register their 3rd-highest score in ODI World Cups

Australia’s 388/10 is now their 3rd-highest score in ODI World Cup history. Australia’s best score was 417/6 versus Afghanistan in 2015. Earlier in World Cup 2023, Australia smashed 399/8 versus the Netherlands. Australia also hammered their ninth score of 350-plus in ODI WCs.

Highest WC score versus New Zealand

Australia posted the highest World Cup score by any side against New Zealand. Notably, Australia broke their own record of 348/6 versus the Kiwis, registered in 2007. Meanwhile, Australia also posted their best ODI total against New Zealand, breaking the previous-best tally of 378/5. Overall, Australia have recorded the 3rd-highest team total in ODIs versus NZ. England hold the record (408/9), with India next on the line (392/4).

Highest WC score versus Australia

New Zealand’s 383 is now the best ODI World Cup score versus Australia. NZ broke the tally of India, who managed 352/5 in the 2019 World Cup. NZ also posted their highest ODI score versus the Aussies.

Highest ODI score in Dharamsala

Australia broke the record of England for the highest ODI total in Dharamsala (HPCA Stadium). England has managed 364/9 versus Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup 2023. NZ responded with the 2nd-highest team total here.

Fourth-fastest century in ODIs for Australia

Aussie opener Head smacked a solid 67-ball 109 upon return from injury. He got to his ton off 59 deliveries. Head has now recorded the fourth-fastest century for Australia. Glenn Maxwell holds the record (40 and 51 balls) versus the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, respectively. James Faulkner’s 57-ball ton versus India is third. 

3rd-fastest ODI century versus NZ

Head has also recorded the 3rd-fastest ODI century against NZ in ODIs. Thisara Perera of Sri Lanka holds the record (57 balls) ahead of Jonny Bairstow of England (58 balls). Head went above Virender Sehwag, who scored a 60-ball ton versus NZ.

5th Aussie to smash a World Cup hundred versus NZ

Head has also become the fifth Australian player to smash an ODI World Cup ton versus NZ. He joins the likes of David Boon, Geoff Marsh, Mark Waugh, and Matthew Hayden.

Highest PP score in ODI World Cup

Warner and Head added 118 runs in the first 10 overs (Powerplay). It’s now the highest powerplay score, surpassing the 116 run-effort registered by New Zealand against England in the 2015 edition of the World Cup. Meanwhile, this is also the joint-highest powerplay score in ODIs, equalling New Zealand’s 118 runs versus Sri Lanka in 2015.

Ravindra slams these records with a solid hundred

New Zealand’s Ravindra smashed his second century in the ongoing World Cup, besides a fourth fifty-plus score. He is now just the third Kiwi batter to smoke a World Cup ton against the Aussies. Ravindra has joined the likes of Chris Harris (130 in 1996) and Martin Crowe (100* in 1992). Meanwhile, Ravindra is now the fourth NZ player to slam two tons in a WC edition. He has joined Glenn Turner, Martin Guptill, and Kane Williamson in terms of two tons in a WC edition. 

Fastest WC ton by a New Zealander

Ravindra got to his ton from 77 balls versus Australia. He broke his own record of 82 balls for the fastest World Cup century by a New Zealander. Ravindra had set the previous record in the 2023 World Cup opener against England.

Ravindra equals Sachin’s record

Ravindra scripted a unique record. He now has two WC tons in a single edition of a World Cup, being aged less than 24. He equalled Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved the mark in 1996. He is also the fifth player to score two or more tons while chasing in a World Cup edition.

3rd-highest scorer in ODIs this year

Daryl Mitchell continued with his fiery fireworks. He scored 54 from 51 balls. Notably, Mitchell, who scored 130 versus India before this, has become the 3rd-highest scorer in Odis this year. He owns 974 runs at 51.26. Only Shubman Gill and Pathum Nissanka own more runs.

Highest match aggregate in World Cup history

Australia posted 388, and New Zealand managed 383 as the two teams put on an exhibition, adding 771 runs in total in terms of aggregate score. It’s now the highest match aggregate in World Cup history, beating the 754 runs between SA and SL in October 2023.
