Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen smashed record-breaking tons, adding 200 runs for the second wicket. David Miller ensured SA ended well as the Proteas once again surpassed 350 runs. In fact, for the eighth successive inning, SA surpassed 300 runs while batting first in ODIs.
In response, New Zealand fell like a pack of cards and were reduced to 90/5. Marco Jansen led the way before Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, and Keshav Maharaj joined in. De Kock smashed his fourth ODI World Cup ton in the 2023 edition. By doing so, the Proteas opener matched former Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara with 4 tons in a World Cup. Sangakkara smashed four centuries in 2015. De Kock is now only behind Rohit Sharma, who hit five tons in 2019.

His 133 is now the second-highest individual score for a South African player against New Zealand in ODI World Cups. This is also the third-highest score among all teams against NZ in ODI WCs. Meanwhile, It’s also the third-best score by a batter for SA versus NZ in ODIs.
