Fakhar Zaman has expressed his belief that the team can reach the semifinals and even the finals of the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023

Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman showcased his prowess against New Zealand’s bowling attack, delivering an outstanding unbeaten 126 and steering Pakistan to a crucial World Cup victory. This marked his fourth century against the Kiwis this year, with scores of 101 in Karachi, 117, and an impressive 180 not out in Rawalpindi.

In a post-match presentation, Zaman expressed the significance of this innings in his career.

“This century stands out as one of my finest. While my 193 against South Africa is unforgettable, this innings is truly among my best,” he said.

As rain interrupted the game, Pakistan stood at 200 for 1 in 25.3 overs, with DLS calculations in play. Zaman candidly admitted that the team was hoping for no resumption.

“We were hoping for it. Anticipating rain, we devised a plan. Around the 15th over, as it started drizzling, we sent a message to the management. We inquired about the number of overs because we were aware that the DLS Method doesn’t apply before 20 overs. Our aim was to determine the target for a 20-over scenario,” he added.

Zaman, who had previously missed part of the World Cup due to a knee injury, spoke about his dedication to improving his game even during his time on the sidelines.

“I dedicated myself to improving my fitness due to an injury. The Asia Cup period was particularly challenging for me,” he added.

Looking ahead, Zaman expressed confidence in Pakistan’s regained rhythm after two consecutive victories following four consecutive losses. He emphasized the team’s positive mindset and the belief that they can reach the semifinals and finals.

“We maintain our belief that we can reach the semifinals and even the finals. However, let’s wait and see, considering the outcomes of the Sri Lanka and New Zealand games. We are optimistic that things will turn in our favour,” he concluded.
