Nathan Lyon is confident that both teams have the talent and experience to go all the way in the tournament

Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has predicted ICC World Cup 2023 finalists as the competition approaches its critical phase. The New South Wales cricketer anticipates a showdown between India and Australia in the final, suggesting a slight advantage for the touring team.

India have emerged as a formidable force in the tournament, winning all six matches establishing themselves as the frontrunners for the trophy. Meanwhile, Australia faced an initial setback, losing their first two matches heavily, but have since made a strong comeback by winning four consecutive games.

Expressing his views on SEN 1170 Breakfast, Lyon acknowledged South Africa as strong contenders. Despite this, he firmly believes that Australia and India will be the teams battling it out in the final.

“I honestly think it’ll be Australia versus India in the final. India is my top pick, and they’ve been thrilling to watch. However, South Africa is still a threat with a strong batting lineup. India faces the pressure of the entire nation expecting a win, and their fans are incredibly passionate. In finals, Australia has a track record, so hopefully, they can go all the way,” Lyon said.

The initial clash between Australia and India in Chennai saw the Men in Yellow struggling with the bat, resulting in a 6-wicket defeat.
