Yuvraj Singh believes that Yuzvendra Chahal could have been a wicket taker on slow turning tracks

Legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh expressed his belief that omitting Yuzvendra Chahal from the World Cup 2023 squad might be a mistake. Despite the initial exclusion from the 15-member squad and being passed over when Axar Patel faced an injury, Chahal remained absent in favor of off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

In an interview with The Week, Yuvraj Singh emphasized the importance of having a leg-spinner like Yuzvendra Chahal, especially in Indian conditions.

“Leaving Yuzvendra Chahal out might be a mistake or cause concern. India could have possibly even kept him in the squad. A leg spinner is someone who consistently takes wickets for you. Kuldeep is doing really well. Chahal, though, would have been dangerous on slow wickets and turning surfaces. Hardik had given you the option to choose a third seamer, you could have gone with Yuzvendra Chahal,” he said.

Yuvraj further elaborated on the return of Jasprit Bumrah, acknowledging its positive impact on the team’s bowling department.

“Jasprit Bumrah’s return feels good since that department was lacking something. Prior to the Asia Cup, I was concerned about various injuries. It is not a given that you will win the World Cup if you win the Asia Cup. But it demonstrates that India is in terrific form,” he added.’
