Tufts STOMP Members

Tufts STOMP has quadrupled in participation size since its beginning eight years ago. The increase in participants, and the subsequent increase in program management workload, which ranges from recruitment to schedule coordination, sparked the creation of an Executive Board.

An Executive Board is comprised of 3-10 experienced STOMP fellows and a program manager. Each of the board members is assigned a handful of classrooms to coordinate teacher and fellow pairing, scheduling, and curriculum implementation.

Elsa is a Masters student in the Math, Science, Technology, and Engineering Education program at Tufts University. Elsa graduated from Tufts Undergraduate School of Engineering in the spring of 2009. She has been a STOMP fellow for the past 3 years working in the Somerville, MA area. In addition to her previous STOMP work, Elsa worked at the CEEO for the summer of 2008 helping in the development of the STOMP Network and curriculum tools. Elsa has participated in LEGO Engineering professional development workshops and other workshops at the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO).

Merredith has earned both a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and B.A. in English from Tufts University in 1998. Merredith has also received her M.A. in Education from Tufts University in 1999. She completed her PhD in Engineering Education in 2010.Merredith is the Director of Outreach Progams for the CEEO. She is responsible for overseeing all of the Center's outreach programs and efforts in the community. She is the founder of the Tufts University STOMP program.

Chris got all three of his degrees at Stanford University, where he worked with John Eaton on his thesis looking at particle motion in a boundary layer flow. From Stanford, he went to Tufts as a faculty member, where he has been for the last million years, with a few exceptions. Chris is involved in several different research areas: particle-laden flows (a continuation of his thesis), telerobotics and controls, slurry flows in chemical-mechanical planarization, the engineering of musical instruments, measuring flame shapes of couch fires, measuring fruit-fly locomotion, and in engineering education (K - College).

Chris also has a strong commitment to teaching, and at Tufts has started a number of new directions, including learning robotics with LEGO bricks and learning manufacturing by building musical instruments. He was awarded the Carnegie Professor of the Year in Massachusetts in 1998 and is currently the director of the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach.
