Tufts STOMP Members

Tufts STOMP has quadrupled in participation size since its beginning eight years ago. The increase in participants, and the subsequent increase in program management workload, which ranges from recruitment to schedule coordination, sparked the creation of an Executive Board.

An Executive Board is comprised of 3-10 experienced STOMP fellows and a program manager. Each of the board members is assigned a handful of classrooms to coordinate teacher and fellow pairing, scheduling, and curriculum implementation.

Adam is a Ph.D. student in the Math, Science, Technology, & Engineering Education Program at Tufts University. He has been working at the Center for Engineering Education Outreach (CEEO) for 4 years. At the CEEO, Adam has been a part of STOMP as a STOMP fellow, executive board member, and now as the program manager. Through his experiences, Adam has had the opportunity to work in after school programs and classrooms in the greater Boston area, participate in LEGO Engineering professional development workshops, and work at LEGO summer camps at Tufts University and other locations.

Elsa is a Masters student in the Math, Science, Technology, and Engineering Education program at Tufts University. Elsa graduated from Tufts Undergraduate School of Engineering in the spring of 2009. She has been a STOMP fellow for the past 3 years working in the Somerville, MA area. In addition to her previous STOMP work, Elsa worked at the CEEO for the summer of 2008 helping in the development of the STOMP Network and curriculum tools. Elsa has participated in LEGO Engineering professional development workshops and other workshops at the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO).

Melissa Pickering, currently Assistant Director of the Center for Engineering Educational Outreach (CEEO), also manages the outreach programs within the Center. As a freshman at Tufts, Melissa began working as one of the first STOMP fellows, and throughout the remainder of her college career she played an active role in helping STOMP become the successful program that it is today. Upon receiving her BS in Mechanical Engineering in 2005, Melissa was hired on as a Ride Design Engineer at Walt Disney Imagineering in California. After some experience in the corporate engineering world, Melissa decided to return to her alma mater in January 2008 to help create sustainability within the outreach programs at the CEEO, as well as assist in the day-to-day management of the Center.
