Alastair Cook to announce retirement after County season

Former England skipper Alastair Cook, who announced his international retirement in 2018, is all set to bid adieu to the game from all forms of cricket after the ongoing County season.

Cook represents Essex in County cricket. The club is placed 2nd on the table only behind Surrey. The announcement about Cook’s retirement is likely to be made official after Essex’s game against Hampshire.

In the ongoing game, Essex, batting first, put 447 runs on the board, but Cook registered a three-ball duck. Opposite to Cook’s wishes, Essex is likely to give a reception in honour of the southpaw’s achievements.

Cook is England’s leading run-getter in Test cricket with 12472 runs in 161 games, averaging 45.35. Alaister has 33 hundred and 57 fifties. The 38-year-old, who was once touted to break Sachin Tendulkar’s records in Tests, retired from the game in 2018 and since then has only participated in County cricket.

In the ongoing edition, Cook has scored 808 runs in 12 games this season at a reasonable average of 38. Despite finding great success in red-ball cricket, Cook failed to replicate the same success in white-ball cricket, as the left-hand opener played just 92 ODIs in his career and never played an ODI World Cup.
