Pat Cummins remarked that Starc and Maxwell are out for the first ODI

Ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, India and Australia would lock horns against each other for a three-match bilateral series, which would act as a practice arena for both teams.

India recently announced their squad for the series, where they gave rest to marquee players for the first two games to give play time to their backup options for the ICC World Cup. On the other hand, Pat Cummins, who has returned after a wrist injury, gave a press conference where he remarked that he is fully fit and will feature in all three games against India.

Cummins, who last played an ODI for Australia in November 2022, shed light on the availability of other players and stated that Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell would not be available for selection for the first ODI. The 30-year-old also remarked that he would rotate the squad and not go to the World Cup with a cooked-up squad.

“We want to strike a balance between getting used to winning the games, getting used to the place but also at the same time not tiring out the players. As a captain, I want to know how to use bowlers here. Does the second spinner play a part? what bowling combinations to use? Hopefully, I get a few insights in the next few days,” remarked Cummins. Here is the video of the Pat’s conference shared by Cricket Australia.

India will face Australia for the first ODI in Mohali tomorrow.
