Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami picked up seven of the 10 wickets to fall, including the first four, to rattle the English top order

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah lauded his teammate Mohammed Shami as a true legend of the sport after India secured a convincing 100-run victory against England in Lucknow on October 29. Bumrah, himself an ace pacer, showered praise on Shami for his remarkable four-wicket haul that played a crucial role in dismantling the English top order.

Bumrah and Shami combined forces to claim seven out of the ten wickets that fell, with Shami making a significant impact in the last two matches despite being on the sidelines for the initial four games. Against both New Zealand and England, Shami wreaked havoc with five and four wickets, respectively.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Bumrah highlighted Shami’s exceptionally calm demeanor and expressed his delight in bowling alongside him.

“He’s truly exceptional, you know, a legend in the game. He’s always been calm, not flashy at all. The way he bowled, it was like he was playing a Test match—absolutely wonderful. We usually have great partnerships in Test cricket, and I really like bowling with him. So, I’m really pleased with how he’s performing.”

This remarkable performance marked Shami’s third instance of picking up four or more wickets in his last four ODIs, dating back to the Australia series before the World Cup. The 33-year-old has amassed outstanding numbers with 180 wickets in 96 ODIs at an average of 24.65.
