In a crucial game against Sri Lanka, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra has scripted history, as the 23-year-old broke Jonny Bairstow’s record for most runs by a player in their World Cup debut.

Before this match, England’s Jonny Bairstow held the record for his 532 runs in the 2019 World Cup winning edition. Rachin now has 535 runs in eight games. Here is the list of the most runs in the debut World Cup edition.

  • 535 – Rachin Ravindra (2023)*
  • 532 – Jonny Bairstow ( 2019)
  • 474 – Babar Azam (2019)

It was not the end of the records for the left-hand batter, as he also broke his idol Sachin Tendulkar’s record for scoring most runs in a World Cup campaign before turning 25.

Sachin held the record for a 523-run campaign in 1996. Here is the list of most runs scored in a WC edition before turning 25.
