Angelo Mathews' broth warned Shakib of traveling to Sri Lanka

The Sri Lanka-Bangladesh World Cup match was marred with controversy after Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan refused to withdraw an appeal for a timed-out, and Angelo Mathews became the first player in the history of cricket to be given ‘Timed-out’.

Shakib received heavy criticism for his actions and in the latest events, Angelo’s brother, Trevin Mathews has warned Shakib that Sri Lankan fans may pelt stones at him if he dared to play in Sri Lanka.

“We strongly condemn the behaviour of the Bangladeshi captain, which lacked sportsmanship and violated the spirit of the gentleman’s game. We are disappointed with his actions and believe they show a lack of humanity. Shakib is not welcome in Sri Lanka due to this behaviour. If he decides to come here for any international or LPL matches, the fans could beat him with stones.,” Trevin told Deccan Chronicle.

The controversial incident took place in the 25th over. Matthews came out to bat after Sadeera Samarawickrama was dismissed. However, he found out that the strap of his helmet was broken and asked for a new one. While he was waiting for the new helmet, the on-field umpires declared him timed out. Matthews approached Shakib, possibly to request him to withdraw the appeal, but the all-rounder refused to do so.
