New Zealand demolished England completely in the opening match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Tom Latham’s team defeated the defending champions by 9 wickets, with Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra hitting hundreds at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Chasing 283, the Kiwis lost Will Young with just 10 runs on the board. However, Conway and the 23-year-old Rachin didn’t allow the England bowlers to settle down and completed the chase easily in 36.2 overs.
Conway was unbeaten on 152 runs off 121 balls, with the help of 19 fours and 3 sixes. On the other hand, Ravindra accumulated 96-ball 123 not out, laced with 11 fours and 5 sixes.
England managed 282/9 after being invited to bat first by Tom Latham. The Jos Buttler-led team lost regular wickets, with Joe Root scoring 77. It was Matt Henry’s day with the ball as pacer dismissed three batters.
