New Zealand got off to a great start but lost three quick wickets in the middle overs that put a break to the scoring rate. Tom Latham and Glenn Philips stitched a 144-run stand that put the Kiwis back on track.

Afghanistan had the opportunity to restrict New Zealand to a much lesser score, but their ground fielding was poor. Notably, Afghanistan dropped six catches in the game.
Rashid Khan was also left frustrated by his fielders as two catches were dropped in his two straight overs. Khan was visibly angry and was animated over the missed chances.
