Hasan Ali in his comeback match, bowled brilliantly

In the highly anticipated 2023 World Cup clash between Pakistan and Netherlands, fast bowler Hasan Ali made a stellar return to ODIs. He left a lasting impression with figures of 2 wickets for 33 runs in his 7-over spell. The match, held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on October 6, witnessed Ali’s remarkable performance, drawing praise from cricketing legend Dale Steyn.

Steyn, in a YouTube video shared by ESPNcricinfo, commended Ali for stepping up, especially considering his absence from the new ball duties for a while.

“Hasan Ali hasn’t touched the new ball in a while. Losing your regular fast bowling unit, which opens the bowling, causes problems. But when he entered, he did an excellent job. He didn’t really make an effort to increase the speed to 140-145 KMPH. His line and length were quite effective,” Steyn said.

“He also had a pleasant smile on his face, which I found to be another aspect I liked about him. He seemed to be having fun, to be honest. Things flow a little more easily when you are having fun,” he added.

It’s noteworthy that Hasan Ali marked his return to Pakistan’s ODI playing XI after a 16-month hiatus. His inclusion in the squad for the ICC event came after Naseem Shah’s unfortunate sidelining due to a shoulder injury. Pakistan commenced their World Cup campaign on a triumphant note, securing an 81-run victory over Netherlands and successfully defending 286.
