Litton Das returned home citing personal reasons

Bangladesh cricketer Litton Das has expressed regret for his recent clash with journalists, deeming his behavior as ‘unacceptable.’ The incident unfolded in the team hotel lobby during the ongoing World Cup 2023 in India.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the media presence in the hotel, the right-handed batter approached a security guard to address his concerns. The controversy ignited when journalists were taking photos of the players from a distance.

Litton Das took to his Facebook page on Monday morning to issue a public apology.

“I really regret the situation that happened yesterday at the team hotel. In fact, I was unaware that there were so many journalists there. I apologize deeply for the unanticipated blunder. To the media, I have always shown respect. In the growth of Bangladesh cricket, journalists have been a major factor,” he wrote.

A senior reporter, Aasif Iqbal, criticized Litton Das for his perceived ‘rude and unacceptable’ behaviour, emphasizing that the cricketer should not vent his frustration on journalists.

“Litton was impolite. In some manner, we were insulted, and we were unable to accept it. Journalists will follow Bangladesh cricket wherever it goes. We were able to speak with the players thanks to the ICC. Mahmudullah and Taskin (Ahmed) spoke with us, but Litton’s behaviour was terrible. He may not act badly towards us just because he isn’t scoring runs,” he stated.

Litton Das has yet to showcase his best performance in the World Cup, amassing 89 runs from three matches at an average of 29.67. Despite celebrating his 29th birthday on October 13, Litton faced disappointment on the field, securing a golden duck against New Zealand at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Litton Das will next play in the upcoming match against India on October 19 at the MCA Stadium in Pune
