Joe Root
Root hit two reverse scoop off Bolland's deliveries

Day four of the first game of the Ashes is underway at the Edgbaston Stadium. England, who lost two early wickets on day 3 with a lead of just 35 runs, got off to a great start today, as Joe Root went all guns blazing right from the first ball.

Under the Brendon McCullum era, Root has brought the biggest change in his stroke play, as he now looks to score runs quickly.

The match resumed with the fifth ball of the 11th over, which could not be completed because of rain yesterday. Notably, on the first ball, Root tried to hit a reverse scoop but missed it.

Although the 32-year-old did not hold back and connected the newly added reverse-hit shot on the second over of the day as he collected ten runs off Bolland’s two deliveries by hitting reverse-hit shots.

Root is in scintillating form, as the right-hand batter scored 118 (152) in the first innings, which included seven fours and four sixes.

Root collected 14 runs off the Bolland over with three reverse scoop shots. Further, Root and Pope collected 43 runs in the first five overs of day 4.
